Update on Dawson

Pin It now! Just a little update on Dawson. He seems to be doing a lot better. Like I said in my previous post he had a really high fever since Monday night. I took him in to see a doctor twice and they both told me that if the fever wasn't gone by Friday to bring him back in and they would send him to the hospital to run some tests. On Friday morning he woke up and didn't have a fever. Yay! I didn't get my hopes up though, because it had come and gone for 2 days before that. Around noon he started to feel warm again so I checked his temperature and it was a little over 101. So I called his doctor to see when we could come in but nobody would answer the phone! I was calling every 30 minutes or so and even left a message and I never heard back from them. I really, really, really don't like that doctor's office. We just barely switched pediatricians too and we've only been in once to see him. I wish I would have just stuck with our old pediatrician until we moved...I didn't think he was very thorough and that's why I decided to change pediatricians. I would totally prefer a pediatrician that was available to see Dawson when needed. I never had a problem getting in to see the other pediatrician. (It took me a week, numerous phone calls and 3 messages that they never returned just to schedule his 15 month checkup with his new pediatrician so this isn't the first time I couldn't get a hold of somebody.) Anyway, moving on... I gave Dawson some Motrin and he took a nap. When he woke up his fever was gone again and since I never could get a hold of his pediatrician I decided to wait and if he still had a fever on Saturday I'd take him to Instacare again.

Sooooo...today he wakes up and he doesn't have a fever! Yay! But he does have a bunch of little red dots all over his upper body and face. I freaked out and sent a text to my mom, sister and emailed my hubby. They all told me that a rash after a prolonged fever was normal. It doesn't seem likes it's bothering him so I'm not going to worry about that right now. He still isn't acting like himself though. He won't eat (thankfully he is still drinking a lot) and he doesn't have a lot of energy at all. Which makes sense because he isn't eating. He'll play for a few minutes and then lay down on the floor and want to go to sleep. I guess he has gotten a little better within the last few hours. He did eat a cupcake and a little bit of mac and cheese. Hopefully he continues to act more like himself. If not I'll be trying to get a hold of his pediatrician again and have him checked out on Monday. I think he's going to be fine though.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, they really meant a lot to me. We should be back to our regular routine soon.

I'm glad he is doing better. Having a sick child is nerve-wracking.

I am glad he is feeling better. I asked my Hubby (who is a PA in Peds) about the rash and he said that as long as the fever already broke, it is probally Roseola. It usualy occurs in children 6 months to 2 years old. You can look it up on Web Md and get pictures for comparison. It occurs at the END of an illness, so he should be getting better and his fever should not go back up.
I hate it when Doctors don't call back, especialy when it comes to your baby!

Glad he seems to be doing better! I had never heard about a rash after a fever and am glad to know this for future reference so I don't totally freak out :( I too cannot seem to find a thorough enough pediatrician that has all the things I would like to have in an office/pediatric.

so glad to hear he's feeling a bit better! that stinks about your doctor. are you able to switch doctors again? it's terrible not to return urgent messages. we are very fortunate that our pediatrician is wonderful--seems like we see him less now b/c the kids are older, but he is still wonderful! take good care, get lots of rest and push those fluids! i like to give mine popsicles when they aren't well--something my mom always did.

I'm so glad he's feeling better! I know how hard to is to watch your child just lay around not feeling well and there's just nothing you can do to make it better! It's the worst feeling in the world!

My regular doctor is the same way! It makes me so damn mad! I cant tell you how many times I've called and had to leave a message because no one would answer and then my call was never returned! It's just irresponsible to me!

I hope that Dawson is feeling better and that his fever doesn't come back!

I am glad he is doing better. I hope he continues to feel better.

I would be so frustrated with the doctor's office.

I cannot believe that it is so difficult to get hold of his doctor! That is ridiculous! For me a sick child is always a priority and I feel that if you specialised and decided to do pediatrics that you should be available 24/7 Our Doctors are 3 in the practice and there is always one on call and they are always available I hope and pray that he will get better soon and that the rash and everything will dissapear

Poor litle guy! I am glad that he is feeling a bit better now and hope he will continue to feel better over this week.

It's hard on them and hard on Mama too!

Will be keeping you both in my prayers and hoping for a speedy recovery!
