Pin It now!
Last week (before he got sick) I decided to try something new with Dawson. I decided to let him paint. Scary, huh?! That's what I thought, too, but he did SO well and it wasn't nearly as messy as I thought it was going to be! (I stripped him down to his diaper and took off his highchair cover just in case) It definitely helped that we were using washable paint. They ain't kidding when they call it washable! When he was finished I was able to wipe it off his hands with a washcloth. I still gave him a bath but really there was no need to.
I got the idea to do this after seeing this project over at Funny Days with Mommy and Maddie. She is always posting such fun and creative things. I love her blog! Anyway, I did things a little bit different because I don't have any contact paper (nor do I know where to find it. I've tried. Help!) and because Dawson is only 14 months old and this is his first time painting.
First I drew an outline of a polar bear and a snowman. Then I cut them out and taped them to a white piece of cardstock (I'm glad I decided to use cardstock because I think Dawson would have tore through regular paper.) And then I let Dawson paint. I was able to get some really good pictures of him painting thanks to Christina from Three A's and a C, she has the same camera as I do and she told me about a feature that I didn't know about.
Sorry for the picture overload but they are all too cute not to share. He had SO much fun. (Don't you just LOVE his smile?!)
I had to rotate the paper around as he was painting (actually he was more like stabbing the paper with the paint brush but it worked!) or else only one spot would have been painted. He did so good though!
When he was finished and after the paint dried I peeled off the snowman and polar bear that I taped on there. A little bit of paint got under the paper so it didn't turn out perfect but I love it. I had to give them each a face to make them a little cuter.
I can't wait to start doing more crafts with him again. We've been in a little bit of a slump but the success of his first painting has me excited to do more!

another cute thing they do at my son's preschool is let them paint all over a piece of paper and then cut out the shape--it turns out big! painting is fun!
That is a VERY cute winter painting. My daughter is 17 months and she loves painting! But she will only do it for like 10 minutes at a time. You can find contact paper at Wal-Mart in the kitchen stuff. Its usually by the knives and drawer organizers. It comes rolled up. I use it all the time to laminate stuff but its a little frustrating sometimes lol. Hope Dawson is feeling better!
Too cute! It looks like he had a blast too.
Showing some love from SITS!
Fantastic! He is just adorable and it looks like Dawson had a blast!
I pick up contact paper either at Walmart or Target and you can find it in large rolls next to the drawer liners in the kitchen department. Just make sure you buy the clear kind! Then you can use it as a cheap and easy laminate too!
I love how it turned out. I can't wait to try painting with Ashlyn! I ordered some stuff but can't seem to get paint delivered here without paying an arm and a leg for shipping. I'm still trying, though!
He did an awesome job. I like the slightly raised effect of the snowman and polar bear.
We are still using bingo stampers to paint at my house.
Those photos ARE so cute! He did a great job on his painting.
How fun! And he looks like he is having a blast! His paintings are beautiful!
Stopping by from SITS!
You're right - the pics are too cute not to share - his smile tells it all!
That's adorable! I still have to turn my son's page while his painting...I don't know what the fascination is with doing the same spot over and over! Have you thought about doing pudding painting with him?
Awww, so cute!!

Awww so cute! I will have to try this with Elijah! Thank you for sharing!
TOO stinkin cute!! I may be brave and attempt this with my 2 year old.. First I have to go get him off of my kitchen table..ugh
Popped in from SITS! That's so precious!
He is just so cute!
So fun! I teach Kindergarten we never have time to paint anymore but you've inspired me to break out the paits, at school and at home!
I am curious, what camera do you have and what was the new function you learned? I have a new camera and love to learn new things about it!
The "imperfections" only add to the quality of the piece- just beautiful!
