Book Fan Friday - Just Like My Dad

Pin It now! It's Friday already! This week's storytime was extra special for us because Daddy was reading the story. My husband is on an 8 month deployment and he left the last day of July so we still have awhile to go before he is home. But since he's been gone he has sent 4 or 5 books for Dawson and has included a dvd of him reading the story, it's really neat to be able to read along with him. And see him. And hear him.

Dawson and I have watched a few of the dvds a few times, but before this week I never thought to have daddy read during storytime. Usually I read to Dawson right after his morning nap. We have a rocking chair in his room so I grab the book we are reading, sit down with Dawson on my lap and we read the story. We read the same book everyday for a week, usually starting on Saturday.

This week we read Just Like My Dad by David Melling.

And Daddy did the reading everyday! I made sure to get the book and the dvd ready while Dawson was napping and then as soon as he woke up I'd take him out to the living room and start the dvd. We sat on the couch together and followed along with Daddy most days. But I wanted to get pictures of Dawson so I let him follow along on his own one day and he did so good! He turned all the pages (he would just randomly flip pages, he wasn't really following along) and he kept looking up at the TV. It was so sweet.

I have a lot of pictures to share because they are just too sweet not to!

Time to turn the page...

Looking up at dada...

Too sweet for words.

I love how he would turn the page and still keep his eye on Dada.

And me taking a million pictures of him didn't even phase him.

I am definitely going to have to let Dave be a part of our daily storytime more often. Dawson really loved seeing daddy on the TV everyday, as did I. We miss him so much and can't wait for him to come home!

To see what others are reading this week head on over to Three A's and a C.

What a great idea for spouses on deployment! I love it. My husband was in the Marines when I met him. We didn't have the technology like we do now. I wished I could have e-mailed him, but raising a child while he was gone. Wow! I give you a big thumbs up!
